Trinidad & Tobago Energy Conference 2012

The Trinidad & Tobago Energy Conference  is the premier event covering the dynamic Trinbagonian energy sector. It is the biggest event for all the current information on their hydrocarbon and petrochemical sectors, the emerging neighbouring Guyana/Suriname basin and new opportunities in renewable energy in the region. This annual conference has been a feature of the T&T  energy sector since 1988 and offers informative presentations,  panel discussions as well as  networking opportunities including a cocktail reception, a gala dinner and a concurrent trade show.

Key developments over the past 12 months, since the last Energy Conference:

  • A new Minster of Energy and Energy Industries and a new Permanent Secretary in the Ministry.
  • A thrust into new deepwater acreage, with bp selected as the preferred bidder for two deepwater blocks and negotiations on-going with a BHPB/Repsol/Total consortium for a third deepwater block.
  • An upsurge in exploration activity with new seismic campaigns and exploration drilling on-shore and offshore.
  • A major oil discovery offshore French Guiana and new activity in offshore Suriname and Guyana – with Trinidad & Tobago acting as the services hub.

  • Active mergers and acquisitions in the traditional oil sector.
  • Announcement on the US$ 2 billion MHTL AUM II project, due to begin construction in 2012.
  • Signing of a memorandum of understanding between Reliance and the National Energy Corporation for a major bitumen upgrader facility.
  • Five proposals from international investors for the construction of a major methanol to petrochemicals facility, with a decision promised by January 2012.
